Please visit the vestibule of the existing Denver Meditation Group and
pick up one of our informative and attractive FoDMG book marks! June 2008, the Denver Meditation Group, along with Friends of Denver Meditation Group will be emailing a survey to those members who have placed their email address with either of these groups. It will be asking questions that Mother Center of Self-Realization Fellowship© have helped us put in a survey form; the questions will have to do with where members currently live, and their desired location for a new chapel. This survey will have a deadline for return, and the data collected will be very helpful! Winter/Spring 2008 has found individual members along with our realtor, searching out parcels of land that are a bit larger; approximately 1 1/2 acres or more. We are looking for a quiet place with accessibility of location along with having a rural feel with views. One major goal is to find a parcel that will serve the Denver Meditation Group long into the future. The possibility for a retreat location along with monastic quarters is worth pursuing! With this in mind and with land opportunities shrinking near the Denver center, we are now looking for a location on the outskirts of Denver proper. Remember, the San Francisco group visits the temple in Richmond, across the bay bridge; Seattle's mew chapel is about 30 minutes from downtown (depending on traffic), and in Michigan, the group built in nearby Kalamazoo. In order to preserve good access, we will continue to look along the major thoroughfares. The Friends of Denver Meditation Group Board meets regularly in order to define ways of achieving its goal. The majority of 2007 has been spent visiting parcels of land near Denver that have a rural feel. Our realtor spent the winter, spring and fall with us, looking at parcels of land throughout the metro area, and then recommended that we spend some time looking in areas near Parker Road (about 10 minutes from the existing chapel) and in Lakewood; both areas are known for their "gentleman's ranches". We have found some parcels with real potential and will keep you informed as to our progress. During the fall of 2006, we have generated a map of a 6-mile radius drawn around a "new epi center" that to date, has been derived from information that has been collected from friends of FoDMG. The information collected, thus far, was the result of asking these 33 friends: "From where you currently live, if you were to travel 20 minutes travel time by car, what main routes would you travel in an east, west, north and southerly direction? We also asked, "What is your preference in an area for a new chapel location?" The spring and summer of 2006 the board and its realtor spent many hours visiting parcels of land to determine the feasibility for a building site. We are presently reviewing the resulting data that we have obtained. Throughout 2005, the board and its realtor spent many hours visiting existing buildings to determine the feasibility of remodeling one for our chapel. On January 30, 2005, the Denver Meditation Group invited us to present our goals and strategies in obtaining a new permanent home for the Group. After our presentation, the Group took a vote to show support or non-support of The Friends of Denver Meditation Group's mission. The vote carried and we are now off and running with our research and planning! We will keep the Group updated in a timely manner regarding our findings. On December 17, 2004 we received a wonderful letter from the Center Department at Self-Realization Fellowship International Headquarters in Los Angeles, California. Because of the nature of the this letter, we will have a Friends of Denver Meditation Group Presentation on January 30th at the Denver Meditation Group Chapel, immediately following the 10:00 service. We hope you can attend! On August 3, 2004 we received approval from the Internal Revenue service for our 501(c)(3) status. The donations that we now receive are tax-deductible to the donor. On June 25, 2004, we received a letter from the Internal Revenue Service asking for more information before they determine our tax-exempt status. We will keep you posted! On February 17, 2004, we received a letter from the Internal Revenue Service stating their receipt of our application for tax-exempt status. As of January 14, 2004, the Friends of Denver Meditation Group have incorporated. As of February 4, 2004, we filed for our "tax-exempt" status with the Internal Revenue Service. Your comments are welcome!
Event: In June of 2005, a couple of members from the Denver Meditation Group, visited the Escondido Meditation Group. SRF members Paul Lloyd and Helen Acosta graciously gave them a tour of their newly acquired and remodeled facility (the building was formerly a nursing home!). Visit their website for more information at www.escondidosrf.org and enjoy the following photos:
Event: In October of 2005, a couple members from the Denver Meditation Group, visited the Richmond Temple in California. A private tour was given and the names of building committee members and the architect were obtained. This will be very helpful in our research! Enjoy the following photos from this visit:
Event: In January of 2004, a couple of members from the Denver Meditation Group, visited the Seattle Center where the group had purchased an existing church and remodeled it into their new chapel. Raj Verma of the Seattle Center writes: "...it's nice to hear from you. ...I don't see any problems with posting Seattle pictures on your website. In fact, I hope it will encourage others to see and want to help make the Denver center come to life." Enjoy the following photos of the Seattle Chapel:
